Faculty Lecture Recital: Schubert, Songfulness and the Body

Franz Schubert
January 30, 2017
All Day
Weigel Auditorium

In commemoration of Franz Schubert's 220th birthday, Arved Ashby, professor and area head of musicology, will discuss the nature of lyricism – its source and purpose – as demonstrated in Schubert’s haunting melodies. He will examine Schubert’s ability to make instruments “sing,” and define the special relationship that Schubert created between the human voice and the piano, and between the body as home for the voice and the mind as the source of ideas. Featured performers: Juliet White-Smith, viola; Robin Rice, baritone and Jiung Yoon, piano. This event is free and open to the public.
