Scarlet Winds Performs Inaugural Concert Nov. 16, 8 pm

Scarlet Winds, the new faculty woodwind quintet at Ohio State's School of Music, will give its first concert on Monday, November 16 at 8 p.m. in Weigel Auditorium, 1866 College Rd, campus.
Scarlet Winds includes, pictured left to right, OSU alumnus Anthony Lojo, clarinet; Katherine Borst Jones, flute; Robert Sorton, oboe; Bruce Henniss, horn; and Karen Pierson, bassoon.
The program includes:
Quintet for Winds, Opus 43 by Carl Nielsen. Dedicated to the Copenhagen Wind Quintet and premiered by them in 1922, remains one of the great standards in woodwind quintet literature.
Horn Quintet, K407W (trans.)
Composed by Mozart in 1782 for horn, violin, two violas, and cello, the work was transcribed for woodwind quintet by James B. Jones, former horn professor at Ohio State.
Opus Number Zoo
This 1951 composition by Luciano Berio includes speaking parts for each of the member of the quintet.
Quintette
Written in 1959 by composer Pierre Gabaye, "Quintette" reflects Poulenc's neoclassic style.
