Peter Kozma Musical Director

Peter Kozma is currently the Director of Opera and Musical Theater at Ohio State University. He began his musical studies at the age of six, and has since studied flute, voice, conducting and directing. While completing his degree in vocal performance at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, he founded the Ars Classica Chamber Opera, where he produced and directed numerous opera productions including The Magic Flute, L'elisir damore, Le nozze di Figaro and Don Giovanni. He also directed a production of L'Ofeo for the Budapest Chamber Opera. He has worked at the Hungarian State Opera and the Miskolc Summer Festival (Hungary) as assistant director. Mr. Kozma received his Master of Music degree in opera stage directing at the University of Texas at Austin, where he directed The Telephone, L'incoronazione di Poppea and La tragédie de Carmen for the UT Butler Opera Center. Mr. Kozma spent a summer as apprentice stage director at Wolf Trap Opera. He also worked as Resident Artist Stage Director at The Minnesota Opera where he directed a production of Rossini's Il Signor Bruschino as well as the American premier of Mercadante's Orazi e Curiazi. Mr. Kozma serves as a staff member at the Des Moines Metro Opera, assisting in the main stage productions and working as a stage director for the Apprentice Artist Program.
