Ohio String Workshop
Cancelled due to lack of enrollment

The Ohio String Workshop is back! After our successful resumption last summer, we continue at our new home on the OSU campus. Students of violin, viola, cello, and bass will have daily class sessions and private instruction with a faculty of master teachers from the Ohio State University School of Music. Sessions are devoted to instrumental technique, practice routine, musicianship, Eurhythmics, sightreading, and repertoire. Students may also have the opportunity to work with videotape equipment, which helps them analyze and understand their own playing.

Small ensemble playing forms an important part of the week’s activities, and a chamber orchestra will rehearse daily under the direction of William Conable and Kia-Hui Tan. The chamber orchestra and small ensembles will perform in the final concerts on June 28. There will also be recital performances by faculty members during the week. We’ll have our classes, rehearsals, and lessons at the OSU School of Music and stay in dorms on OSU’s north campus. The workshop is open to all pre-college students who have finished the eighth grade. The application deadline is May 15, but applications received after that date will be considered if space remains available. The complete cost of the workshop is $425. A non refundable deposit of $50 is due with the application. A limited number of partial scholarships will be available depending on instrumental balance and a teacher’s recommendation.
